The British newspaper The Guardian has named Croatia the fourth most attractive European holiday destination. Ahead of it are Austria, Switzerland and Sweden, while Italy is in fifth place. Croatia is also a recipient of the Choice Award given by travel agents for being a "rising star" for short distance travel.
The "Travel Awards" destinations are nominated by the tourism professionals from Great Britain. The director of Croatian National Tourist Board Niko Bulic said that one of Croatia’s advantages is that it is the "last unspoiled and beautiful part of the Mediterranean,". Despite being in the tourism game for quite some time, the country has managed to maintain its authenticity, lifestyle, excellent wine and food offers and valuable cultural and natural heritage.
Some 236,843 Brits visited Croatia up until September of this year, five per cent more than in 2009. They realized 1,237,855 overnight stays, an increase of six percent over last year, the daily Vecernji List writes.
