Bulgaria's economy expanded by 0.3% in the third quarter of 2010 compared with the previous three-month period of the year, showed flash seasonally-adjusted estimates by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Friday.
The figure is lower than the 0.5% rise in gross domestic product (GDP) registered in the April-June period, but marks the first rise in economy on annual basis in a year and a half.According to NSI figures, the country's GDP expanded 0.2% for July to September against the same period of 2009, failing to meet expectations for a growth of 0.4%.
The statistics data is also in line with the forecasts of economists polled by Dnevnik last week, who stated that Bulgaria's economy had started to recover from the trough, but its turn to growth will take long time. The positive trend in economy was mainly triggered by the agricultural sector, which registered a 1.2% quarterly rise.
