Year-over-year inflation in Romania reached 7.58 percent in August 2010, the highest level in the past two years, with the prices for fresh and canned vegetables, citric fruits and other fruits, water and mass transit tickets having advanced the most.
Data with the National Statistics Institute (INS) indicate that the consumer price index was up 0.23 percent from July. The developments in the prices for foods and services were not a major influence on inflation as was the 5-percent hike in the Value-Added Tax this July.
