Balkan countries ally to promote river tourism

Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia have joined forces to boost economic development along the Sava river that flows through the three former Yugoslav republics, officials said Tuesday.
The three countries presented a common project aimed at developing tourism along the 944-kilometre long river, Zlatan Frohlich, head of the Zagreb economic chamber, told journalists.
"We want to open this area not only for tourism but for investments into various economic activities," Frohlich said.

The countries plan to publish a river chart by the end of the year that they hope will help develop tourism potential. The project includes regional economy chambers from Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia, and is supported by the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC). It is hoped that Slovenia will also join the project. The ISRBC, established in 2005, gathers representatives of four countries through which the river flows -- Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.
