Usage of information-communication technologies in enterprises, detailed data, Slovenia, 2010

In January 2010, 52% of persons employed used at their work computers at least once a week. Internet usage was more frequent in service activities.

Half of persons employed used computers at their work

In January 2010, 52% of persons employed in enterprises with at least 10 persons employed used computers at least once a week at their work routine. 43% of persons employed used at least once a week computers with access to the Internet. The share of computer usage was the highest among small enterprises (in regard to the number of persons employed) with 54% of persons employed. The difference between the usage of computers and computers with Internet access was the highest among large enterprises. In those enterprises 53% of persons employed used computers and 39% computers with Internet access. In regard to the activity, 39% of persons employed in manufacturing activities used computers once a week (33% of employees used computers with Internet access) and 69% of persons employed in service activities (56% of employees used computers with Internet access). Due to the nature of their work, the usage was still the lowest in construction activities (28%) and the highest in information and communication activities (97%).

Frequent use of local area networks

In January 2010, LAN (Local Area Network) was used for the purposes of transfer or exchange of data and for joined usage of software and hardware in 82% of enterprises. LAN was used by 78% of small enterprises and by almost all medium-sized and large enterprises. 41% of enterprises used in their local computer network wireless connection (wireless LAN), mostly large enterprises (82%).

33% of enterprises used intranet for internal communication in enterprises with the purpose of exchanging information and communication, while 13% of enterprises used extranet for the purpose of communication with their business partners or customers.

Broadband Internet access more common in enterprises in service activities

In January 2010, 97% of enterprises with at least 10 persons employed had Internet access. 85% of enterprises accessed the Internet via fixed broadband connection (e.g. ADSL, cable, optical access etc.) and 31% via mobile broadband connection (3G modem or 3G handset). The share of enterprises with Internet access was in regard to the activity higher in service activities (98%) than in manufacturing activities (95%). The share of fixed broadband access was also higher among enterprises in service activities (89%) in comparison with enterprises of manufacturing activities (81%). The difference is also present in the usage of mobile Internet connection in favour of service activities.

Enterprises of service activities have more frequently used the Internet in January 2010 for conducting banking and financial services (96%) than enterprises in manufacturing activities (90%). They have also used more often the Internet for training and education (45%) than enterprises in manufacturing activities (32%). Smaller was the difference in the usage of e-government services in previous years, 90% of enterprises in service activities and 86% of enterprises in manufacturing activities.

The number of orders, reservations received higher in service activities; the share of generated turnover via computer networks in service and manufacturing activities almost equal

In 2009, 12% of enterprises received orders, reservations via computer networks (via websites or via automated data exchange), excluded are orders, reservations made via e-mail. The share was with 17% the highest among enterprises in service activities; in manufacturing activities 8% of enterprises received orders in this way. In service activities orders, reservations received via websites predominated (13%). Via websites orders were received only by 3% of enterprises in manufacturing activities, where orders received via automated data exchange predominated (5%).

Regarding the total turnover in value terms (excluding VAT), in 2009 the shares of generated turnover via computer networks were almost equal among enterprises in service activities (10.3%) and enterprises in manufacturing activities (10.1%).
