Romania's ten-month trade deficit ROTBAL=ECI narrowed by roughly 5 percent on the year to 7.7 billion euros ($10.16 billion), as exports' growth rate outpaced that of imports, data showed on Friday.
In October, the trade shortfall was 737 million euros, the National Statistic Board (INS) said.
The INS said CIF (cost/insurance/freight) imports rose 18.7 percent in the first ten months of the year to 38 billion euros, while exports rose 26.7 percent to 30 billion euros. Romania once ran a yawning trade gap that left it exposed to a financing crisis and seeking international aid in 2009, but the shortfall has narrowed sharply since then as a prolonged recession hit consumption and weakened the currency.
