In October 2010, for the second consecutive month, Bulgaria's new car sales saw the sharpest decrease among European Union member states. This is according to European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (EAMA) data. New car sales in January to October 2010 in Bulgaria were 35.6 per cent less than in January to October 2009.
Bulgarians bought 12 698 new light commercial vehicles in January to October 2010. In 2009, the figure for the first 10 months was 19 723. In October 2010, car sales decreased 9.3 per cent in monthly terms. However, this appears moderate compared with the 37.6 per cent decrease in Spain and the 33.4 per cent decrease in Greece. EU countries saw an overall 16.6 per cent slump in new car sales in October, the seventh consecutive drop on a monthly basis.
