Montenegro's Tourism Minister Predrag Nenezic said the country has attracted 638 million euro ($889 million) in tourism revenue so far this year, beating its annual plan of 620 million euro, local media reported. Nenezic said the main reason for the positive results are that the country was very well-prepared for the tourist season and cooperation between the private and the public sector was tight, radio and TV broadcaster RTCG said on its website on Friday.
Nenezic told local media last month Montenegro needs to improve its air transport accessibility and attract top hotel chains to be able to extend its summer tourism season and boost its tourism earnings.
The economy of the tiny Adriatic state is highly dependent on tourism. The World travel and Tourism Council has projected that the country’s tourism industry will grow at over 8.0% annually in 2008-2015.
