Euro area1 annual inflation was 1.8% in September 20102, up from 1.6% in August. A year earlier the rate was -0.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.2% in September 2010. EU3 annual inflation was 2.2% in September 2010, up from 2.0% in August. A year earlier the rate was 0.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.2% in September 2010.

Inflation in the EU Member States In September 2010, the lowest annual rates were observed in Ireland (-1.0%), Latvia (0.3%) and Slovakia (1.1%), and the highest in Romania (7.7%), Greece (5.7%) and Estonia (3.8%). Compared with August 2010, annual inflation rose in twenty Member States, remained stable in four and fell in three. The lowest 12-month averages4 up to September 2010 were registered in Ireland (-2.1%), Latvia (-1.9%) and Slovakia (0.4%) and the highest in Romania (5.2%), Hungary (4.9%) and Greece (3.9%).
